Years in Industry 26
Started at Direct 1994
In your own words, what does your role involve?Mr Fix it!
What do you like most about working at Direct Couriers? Each day is a new challenge – No two days are ever the same. I think back to when the business started out of my unit and how the business has evolved over the years. From two way radio’s and desks full of paper to a data-integrated paperless platform. Building solutions for our staff and customers makes us more efficient and competitive in every area of the business.
One of the most gratifying things to see is how many long term customers and staff we have forged relationships with, and how our staff have up skilled themselves within our organization to take on bigger and better roles.
What is the most memorable thing that has happened during your time in the business? In 24 years of being in business there would be many to reflect on, so to single out one would be impossible. However, I will never forget the first courier job I ever did; to this day I think it still has been the most difficult – It was to relocate a trampoline into a block of units.
More recently, my oldest son who was born 7 days after I started with Direct Couriers came to work with us for a few months after finishing school. His generation breathe technology far more than I do. After only working in the call centre for a few weeks, he came to me one evening and pointed out a number of improvements we could make to our system. After discussions with our management team, it was agreed that these enhancements would benefit all concerned. Now I have my son teaching me “stuff” about the business we have built over so many years. WOW!! – I must be getting old.
Which AFL / NRL / Super15 team do you support?Huge Swans supporter – Roosters and the Tahs
Other Interests?Number 1 on the bucket list would be to play a round of golf with Tiger at Augusta.
