Who are Direct Couriers?

Since 1983, Direct Couriers has been keeping Australia moving. As one of the country's leading logistics and transport companies, we deliver same-day, overnight, interstate and international courier solutions to businesses of every size, with a reputation built on reliability, flexibility, and genuine service. With a team of over 1,500 people across Australia and New Zealand, we're a company that takes pride in what we do and the people who do it.

What’s the role?

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially sharp Carrier Manager to join our Linehaul team in Sydney. This is a newly created position and a genuine opportunity to shape and professionalise how we manage our subcontractor carrier network.

You’ll be the single point of accountability for carrier performance, compliance, and relationships across our linehaul operations, freeing the operations team to focus on execution while you own the network.

What will you be doing?

  • Own the performance of our subcontractor carrier network from scorecards to reviews and improvement plans
  • Be the primary relationship owner for all carriers, keeping them engaged, accountable, and aligned to our standards
  • Drive compliance across the network, including CoR obligations, inductions, vehicle standards, and D&A requirements
  • Manage capacity planning, carrier onboarding, and commercial carrier rate reviews to keep the network strong and cost-effective

Why should you apply?

This role is ideal for someone who has worked in freight or logistics and is ready to step up into a network management position with real ownership and visibility. You’ll work closely with the operations leadership team, have a direct impact on service quality and cost efficiency, and help build something genuinely new within a well-established national business.

What you need:

  • Solid background in transport, linehaul, or freight logistics, ideally with exposure to subcontractor or carrier management
  • Strong understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations and carrier compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage commercial relationships and hold carriers accountable to performance standards
  • Confident with data, able to build, read, and act on carrier scorecards and performance metrics
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a calm, direct approach
  • Self-managed and proactive, able to structure your own week and drive outcomes without close supervision
  • Experience with transport management systems and Microsoft Office suite
